'CURTAINS'
by Stephen Bill
It
is Ida's 86th birthday and her family have gathered to celebrate
this milestone with her. A milestone Ida would have preferred not to
reach in her pain-racked state. Following the gathering, which sees
the return of prodigal daughter Susan, eldest daughter Katherine is
tormented by a pact with Ida not to let her suffer.
After
several bungled attempts she finally helps her out of her misery and
into the next world. Following this act the family proceed to reveal
a panorama of rivalries, antagonisms, inadequacies and English mores
at their hilarious, moving and provoking worst.
The
play is set in contemporary Birmingham. |
