    NEWS UPDATE JANUARY 2007

Many thanks to everyone who came along to support our village pantomime, Sleeping Beauty. It was wonderful to play to 5 full houses. Special thanks too to new and associated members on and off stage for their help and expertise. Do you ever wonder though, how and where we all fit back stage between scenes? Umm, we do too!  It must be all that fairy magic!

So, as the glitter and grease paints are tidied away, and the Damnation plant, is placed back in the ‘dangerous items’ vault under the stage; we look forward to the second production in this, the societies Jubilee year.

Playboy of the Western World, by J M Synge.

Comedy or Tragedy? Romantic or Grotesque? The balance swings back and forth, hopefully contributing to the audiences’ sense of amusement, recognition and discomfort.

I could expand on the plays Oedipal and moral themes, or I could just hope that this doesn't put you off, and you just come along and enjoy the show!

More details and exciting rehearsal reports over the next couple of months.

Performances 17th 18th and 19th May 2007. Tickets on sale at Paul's Newsagents from the beginning of March or contact  01283 790054 for advanced bookings.

    CHRISTMAS DO December 16th 2006

                                                               WE’RE OFF ON SAFARI AGAIN!

For Christmas this year we are having a safari meal on 16th December.  It’s been a few years since the last one, so it might be worth explaining what goes on, for anyone who hasn’t been before.  We meet at one place to start the evening, but that’s all you know in advance.  Then everyone is given a note of where they are going for their starter, and we scatter to different locations across the village (still in couples if that’s how you came!).  After starter, you find out where your main course is – you will be at a different place with a different group – and the same for dessert.  Then we all meet up again to finish the evening.  If you have kindly offered to do a course at your house – you’ll see it needs to be something you can prepare in advance!  Anyone who has done it before will tell you it’s great fun and makes for a really interesting evening.

Jane is organising it this year, and what she needs to know from you is:

     ·         Can you come?

    ·         Can you do a course at your house? (not compulsory, even if you live in the village!)

    ·         Do you have a preference for which course (starter, main, dessert?) or can it be anything?

    ·         How many people (including yourselves!) can you seat?

Let Jane know – if you haven’t already – by email (research@jsgravells.freeserve.co.uk), text (07957 888109), phone (same or 790677) or note (121 Main St)

    50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS

    SEPTEMBER 15TH 2007

The dramatic Society wish to celebrate their 50th Anniversary with something special next year we have therefore booked “The Guildhall” in Lichfield for Saturday September 15th 2007 for an evening of dance and merriment!

We have not finalised arrangements for this event yet, as we still need some ideas from you so we please ask the following:-

    •  Do you know of any good bands that we could hire

    •  Do you know of any good caterers

    •   We wish to open this invitation out to all our members and associates of the society, both past and present and would therefore require a list of people you may still be in touch with so that we can contact them too.

Please could you forward any information to June Berrow either by email goffery@btinternet.com or phone 01283 790324 asap.

We are also producing a commemorative calendar for 2007, which will be available in December, but we still need some material for this.  If you could have a look for any ‘old’ programs, photo’s, press-cuttings from any productions you have been involved it, please could you forward these to

Michelle Trappett – please contact her either on email:

shell@bryshell.com - or by phone on 0207 871 0624 – or mobile 07976 878259 – she will also be available most Tuesday evenings at the village Hall.

That’s it folks! If there is anything else that you wish to contact us for, please get in touch with Siobhan Griffin – 01283 791510    or email Vincent@vincentgriffin.wanadoo.co.uk
