Dracula

Directed by Tony Jones, the play opens just after Lucy Westerna’s mysterious death (played by Jane Gravells), leaving Dr. Van Helsing (John Stephenson) to collect journals and letters to study in an attempt to discover the cause of poor Lucy’s demise.

From here, in flashback, the play chronicles Johnathan Harker’s (Tony Jones) travels to Transylvania and his imprisonment there by his aged client, Count Dracula (played by Tony Wilson).

We meet Dr. John Seward (Steve Bullock) in charge of his private lunatic asylum and his patient Renfield (Brian Trappett) who has some very interesting views on the nature and source of eternal life.

The struggle between good and evil continues through the second half with the men attempting to defeat a powerful, rejuvenated Dracula and save the soul of the final principle character Mina. (Played by Joy Carlisle)

The play, includes a quartet of nubile Nosferatu, the staking through the heart of Lucy, a pair of sensational seductions and the bloody murder of Renfield and so is obviously not for the faint of heart or younger viewers.

A dynamic ending in which virtue triumphs over evil gives some interesting implications about the nature of virtue itself and the relationship between women and men to each other and to society in general. “
